After postponing plans in 2020, Richmond’s first-ever Millstone Festival is coming to the downtown historic district on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Named for downtown’s newest, “pocket park” that opened in 2019, the festival will celebrate the community and its long history in the milling industry, and serve as a much-needed reprieve from a difficult year.

“The City of Richmond is so excited to be able to celebrate the beginning of fall with our first ever Millstone Festival,” said Lori Murphy-Tatum, executive director of Richmond Tourism. “The Festival Committee has worked really hard to make this a successful event.”

The inaugural Millstone Festival will take over the downtown space with fun community activities, live music, and great local food and drinks. A homebrew contest, car-show, and chili cook-off are just a few of the day’s scheduled activities. More than 60 vendors and 15 food vendors have committed to being part of the festival. Local favorites Dreaming Creek Brewery and Chenault Vineyards will be present as beverage vendors. The Madison County courthouse lawn will host the festival’s live acts, including Clark Kissick and Friends at 2:00, April with Whiskey River at 4:00, Vintage Voodoo at 6:00, and the Local Honeys at 8:00.

In light of the recent rise in COVID-19 cases, extra precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of festival guests.  Extra space has been added between each booth and hand sanitizing systems will be located throughout the festival area. Guests are also encouraged to wear masks.

“We hope that this festival becomes a Richmond tradition for many years to come,” Murphy-Tatum said. “Speedy Denny’s Millstone Park is such a treasure to our city, we can’t wait to show it off.”

The Millstone Festival is free and open to the public. The City of Richmond, Recreation hopes to see you there!
