Be sure to begin your journey at the Richmond Visitor Center, where you can pick up a free copy of the Historic Walking Tour book during their hours of operation (M-F 8am-4:30pm).
Explore Fort Boonesborough, a meticulously reconstructed frontier fort that brings Adniel Boone’s 18th-century wilderness settlement to life. Just a short drive away, walk the grounds of White Hall State Historic Site, once home to emancipationist Cassius Marcellus Clay, and admire the Italianate mansion and its preserved artifacts.
Please note: Both Fort Boonesborough and White Hall are open seasonally, from April through October.
History enthusiasts won’t want to miss Battlefield Park, the site of one of Kentucky’s most significant Civil War battles, where you can walk the grounds and learn about the 1862 conflict that swept through the region. For a closer look at Richmond’s local history, visit the Irvinton House Museum, filled with artifacts and exhibited, like one of seven remaining Revolutionary War uniforms. While you’re exploring off Lancaster Avenue, don’t forget to stop by the Squire Boone Rock, a marked landmark viewable from outside the front of Richmond City Hall, tied to early Kentucky settlement.
