There are moments when hard work, passion, and dedication come together. Thursday, Richmond Tourism’s Executive Director, Lori Murphy-Tatum, experienced just that.
At this year’s Kentucky Travel Industry Association (KTIA) Conference, Lori was honored with the 2025 Mangeot-Oaken Distinguished Service Award; this is one of the most prestigious recognitions in Kentucky’s tourism industry. The award celebrates professionals who have made a lasting impact through leadership, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to promoting the spirit of Kentucky.
For those who know Lori, this recognition comes as no surprise. A proud Madison County native and lifelong advocate for her community, Lori’s career has been defined by her love for Richmond and the history our city tells. Over her professional career, Lori has served in numerous leadership positions across the Commonwealth, including serving as the treasurer of the Bluegrass Tourism Region, past President of the Kentucky Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus (KACVB), and a member of KTIA’s Executive Team.
Beyond the titles and accolades, Lori’s heart remains right here in Richmond. She continues to serve on several community boards, works closely with Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) to welcome and host fellow alumni home each year during EKU Homecoming, and has built genuine, lasting relationships with Richmond’s hoteliers, business owners, and community partners. Her leadership style is rooted in relationships, and she has always moved in ways the prioritize relationships because she believes tourism thrives when people work together.
From all of us at Richmond Tourism, both current and past, congratulations! I can surely say, without a doubt, your passion and leadership continue to put Richmond on the map.
